Introduction

There are two types of PDF documents - those created by sending Office files, images, etc. to an Acrobat like PDF printer and those created by scanning physical paper like pages of a book, legal documents, etc. In order to edit a scanned PDF document, Optical Character Recognition software is required to electronically identify each character on a page and then convert it into a useable format. Essentially what it does is to extract text from an image - this functionality has been realized in Advanced OCR Free, a tool that can recognize text from PDFs that are generated by scanning paper documents.
